Organisation’s vision:

The key short-term objective for EMODnet partners is to deliver the vision target of a seamless multi-resolution digital seabed map of European waters by 2020, covering all EMODnet themes, easily accessible, interoperable, and free of restrictions on use. This objective will be accompanied by a process that helps European countries maximize the potential of their marine observation programmes via data adequacy assessment at sea-basin scale. The EMODnet Sea-Basin Checkpoint exercises could be repeated periodically as part of this process.

Organisation’s mission:

EMODnet is a network of organisations supported by the EU’s integrated maritime policy. These organisations work together to observe the sea, process the data according to international standards and make that information freely available as interoperable data layers and data products.

Organisation’s objectives (if different from the Mission):

- Enable effective and efficient marine spatial planning and legislation for environment, fisheries, transport, border control, customs and defence;
- Reduce uncertainty in our knowledge and ability to forecast the behaviour of the sea;
- Improve offshore operators’ efficiency and costs in gathering and processing marine data for operational and planning purposes;
- Stimulate competition and innovation in established and emerging maritime sectors.
